Adobe Flash Player 9 Linux

Previously named Flash Player 8.5, has been updated(10/18/2006) to Linux. It's still in a beta-stage but adobe expect to release the final product in early 2007.

But what about using flash9 on FreeBSD? Well...on this page I will publish my own (and others) progress with Adobe Flash Player 9 plugin using Mozilla Firefox and Opera on FreeBSD both native and under the Linux compatibility environment.

This Adobe Flash Player 9 plugin for Linux(9.0.31.0) release uses ALSA(Advanced Linux Sound Architecture), so audio/linux-alsa-lib needs to be installed from ports to enable sound output.

Firefox Linux/i386 version on FreeBSD

Currently this firefox version is what works best. With this pre-compiled linux version from FreeBSD ports-collection I can watch just about any .swf flash. BUT it has some kind of stability issue, linux-firefox 2.0 usually core dumps after about 1-3 minutes of playback...

Download libflashplayer.so and flashplayer.xpt
Copy the files into your plugins directory (usually located): ~/.mozilla/plugins or /usr/local/lib/linux-firefox/plugins

Linux-opera on FreeBSD

About the same problem as with firefox. Opera works perfectly for a while with the adobe flash 9 plugin. Then opera closes it for not having contact.
