Adobe Flash Player 9 LinuxPreviously named Flash Player 8.5, has been updated(10/18/2006) to Linux. It's still in a beta-stage but adobe expect to release the final product in early 2007.Latest version: 9,0,31,0, released 1/16/2007 Download: Flash Player 9 Linux FAQ: Flash Player 9 Linux Beta Emmy Huang: Product Manager for Flash Player at Adobe Adobe Flash Testpage But what about using flash9 on FreeBSD? Well...on this page I will publish my own (and others) progress with Adobe Flash Player 9 plugin using Mozilla Firefox and Opera on FreeBSD both native and under the Linux compatibility environment. This Adobe Flash Player 9 plugin for Linux(9.0.31.0) release uses ALSA(Advanced Linux Sound Architecture), so audio/linux-alsa-lib needs to be installed from ports to enable sound output. Firefox Linux/i386 version on FreeBSDCurrently this firefox version is what works best. With this pre-compiled linux version from FreeBSD ports-collection I can watch just about any .swf flash. BUT it has some kind of stability issue, linux-firefox 2.0 usually core dumps after about 1-3 minutes of playback...Download libflashplayer.so and flashplayer.xpt Copy the files into your plugins directory (usually located): ~/.mozilla/plugins or /usr/local/lib/linux-firefox/plugins Linux-opera on FreeBSDAbout the same problem as with firefox. Opera works perfectly for a while with the adobe flash 9 plugin. Then opera closes it for not having contact.(process:28412): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: gtype.c:2254: initialization assertion failed, use IA__g_type_init() prior to this function (process:28412): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_clipboard_get_for_display: assertion `GDK_IS_DISPLAY (display)' failed Adobe FlashPlayer: gtk_clipboard_get(GDK_SELECTION_PRIMARY); failed. Trying to call gtk_init(0,0); opera: Plug-in 28412 is not responding. It will be closed. opera: Define environment variable OPERA_KEEP_BLOCKED_PLUGIN to keep blocked plug-ins. More info to come... Do not hesitate to contact me if you have useful information that can be added to this page. |
